Technical info on Taiwanese phone numbers
Taiwanese phone numbers are made up of 10 digits, including the area code. The area code varies depending on the location of the phone number, with Taipei having the area code of 02, and other major cities such as Taichung, Tainan, and Kaohsiung having their own unique area codes. When dialing a Taiwanese phone number from outside the country, the country code for Taiwan (+886) must be dialed first.
In recent years, the Taiwanese government has introduced new area codes due to the growing demand for phone numbers. These new area codes include 06, 07, and 08, which were previously not used for phone numbers. Additionally, phone numbers starting with 0800 are toll-free and can be used for customer service or other business purposes.
It's important to note that Taiwanese phone numbers do not have any spacing or hyphens, and are typically written in a continuous string of 10 digits. This can make it difficult for non-native speakers to remember and dial the correct phone number. However, many smartphones and mobile devices can automatically add the correct formatting for Taiwanese phone numbers when they are entered into contacts or dialed.
