The history behind Indonesian phone numbers
The history of Indonesia phone numbers dates back to the early 1900s when the Dutch colonial government introduced telephone services to the country. At that time, the telephone system was limited to major cities such as Jakarta, Surabaya, and Semarang, and the number of telephone users was very small.
In 1949, after Indonesia gained independence from Dutch colonial rule, the Indonesian government nationalized the telephone system and established a state-owned telecommunications company called Perusahaan Negara Telekomunikasi Indonesia (PT Telkom). Under PT Telkom, the telephone system expanded rapidly, and by the 1970s, most major cities and towns in Indonesia had telephone services.
In the 1980s and 1990s, with the advent of new telecommunications technologies such as cellular phones and satellite communications, the Indonesian government began to deregulate the telecommunications industry, allowing private companies to enter the market. This led to a proliferation of mobile phone operators in the country, and today there are several major mobile phone operators in Indonesia, including Telkomsel, Indosat Ooredoo, XL Axiata, and Three.
The format of Indonesian phone numbers has also evolved over time. Originally, phone numbers in Indonesia consisted of six digits, but as the number of telephone users grew, the length of phone numbers was extended to seven digits in the 1980s and to eight digits in the 1990s. Today, Indonesian phone numbers consist of 11 digits, with the first digit indicating the type of service (e.g., mobile, fixed-line, or VoIP) and the next three digits indicating the area code.

Technical info on Indonesian phone numbers
India phone numbers consist of a 10-digit number that starts with either a 7, 8, or 9. The first three digits indicate the network provider, and the following seven digits make up the unique subscriber number. There are different codes for landline numbers, mobile numbers, and toll-free numbers. The country code for India is +91, which is to be added before the 10-digit number while dialing from outside India.
