SMS on United States numbers

Incoming SMS is available on every US FlyNumber on supported prefixes β€” texts are forwarded to the email on your account for a small per-segment fee. 2FA / short-code verification texts aren't guaranteed.

Outbound SMS is reserved for personal, person-to-person (P2P) conversations on every account β€” including business accounts β€” and isn't enabled by default. To activate, open a support ticket and briefly describe how you plan to use it; once approved, outbound SMS is enabled for personal P2P use only.

Businesses are welcome on FlyNumber for voice β€” call forwarding, the cloud PBX, SIP/VoIP, and outbound calls all work the same on personal and business accounts. Outbound SMS, however, isn't available for business use on any plan; for business, marketing, or automated messaging you'll need a registered A2P messaging campaign (e.g. 10DLC in the US) through a dedicated A2P provider.

  • Permitted: texting friends, family, or other personal contacts β€” the same way you'd text from your everyday mobile.
  • Not permitted: marketing or promotional messages, bulk/broadcast sending, automated alerts, 2FA codes sent to your customers, lead generation, or any A2P / B2C traffic. Those use cases require a registered business messaging campaign (e.g. 10DLC in the US) through an A2P provider.

Full details, including the formal policy, are in our SMS docs and Terms of Use, Section 22.
