"Time flies" (no pun intended) would be an understatement here. The first thing we need to do is give a big thank you to all our long-term users — those who stuck with us through thick and thin, who were understanding when we had bugs and patient as we rolled out core features. I (as the founder) can't convey enough the appreciation I have for you. While some may look at the relationship as simply transactional, I do not. We've helped you communicate with friends, family, and customers/clients (for the business owners) throughout the years, and we appreciate your trust in that respect. We're excited to start the next chapter — the OGs here will always have a special place in our hearts.

In the last decade-plus we've shipped plenty of updates, but if we're honest, most of them were patches stacked on top of patches — new features bolted onto a panel that was first built back when "the cloud" still sounded like a buzzword. Today is different. This is the single biggest update we've ever released, and it touches just about everything: how you choose a number, how you make and take calls, how you text, and how you see what you're actually paying for.

Back in 2022, I wrote a piece about entrepreneurs not taking full advantage of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol), and looking back, I feel like I was onto something...

The potential was there: an open, reliable technology that could save businesses money and give them more control over their communications. Looking back now in 2025, that post feels prescient - but with a twist I hadn't anticipated.

Introduction: The Hidden World of SIP Security​

I was browsing around on Hacker News and if you're not familiar, the good stuff is usually in the comments. I was intrigued by this comment (by @kkielhofner) and how he/she illustrates a common but often overlooked misconception about SIP. Specifically, the misunderstanding pertains to the role and implications of port 5060 and its associated traffic in a standard SIP deployment.

Savvy entrepreneurs have been taking advantage of the versatility SIP has to offer since the mid-'90s. We're excited to see more jump on board, it's a neat alternative to the closed VoIP ecosystem. (i.e. One VoIP company app for all devices, employees etc.)

Here's a simple tutorial on how you can use the Zoiper app and sip2sip to receive unlimited incoming calls on your FlyNumber (ie. Virtual phone number)

This does not require the use of our cloud PBX system.

It’s been a while since we’ve updated the blog, our apologies . We’ve been very busy updating the “internals”, we’re about to introduce FlyNumber SIP addresses among other neat features. The exterior may look the same but there’s plenty going on inside. We’re coming out with new features almost every quarter and the PBX/ Virtual phone system is evolving very nicely. You need to try it out if you haven’t already, it’s visually appealing and the grid gives you a real sense of customization.
